Innovation in Zürich Highway Tunnel

Want to experience the future of High-voltage electric energy transmission? We will exhibit our 245 kV, 4000 A pressurized air cable test-installation from 25.11 until 13.12.2024 in the service area below the Zürich Highway "Uetliberg" Tunnel.

Hivoduct AG
Kemptthal, Switzerland

The temporary test installation of 245 kV pressurized air cables shows how an existing tunnel system - and many similar ones exist in Switzerland - can be used for efficient electric energy transmission in for Gigawatts.

The 3-phase test installation around 100 m in length and shows the flexibility for different arrangements to fit to the given tunnel environment. Our revolutionary, boltless flange design allows for quick installation within a few days. Installation and transport is accomplished via the existing entrance and elevator due to the weight and size limitation of the chosen transport units.

In comparison to traditional XLPE cables, pressurized air cables have a metallic, fireproof aluminium enclosure which also strongly reduces the outside magnetic field. Pressurized dry air is used as a main insulation medium inside the enclosure. The enclosures are grounded and touchable during operation which allows installation even in existing tunnels accessible for people.
