Hivoduct adds pressurized air cables with 3-phase enclosure up to 145 kV

Single-phase encapsulated pressurized air cables are already available for MV and HV applications up to 3000 A rated current. We have now added 3-phase enclosed options up to 145 kV, 2000 A which are beneficial in many applications by saving space and on-site assembly efforts.

Hivoduct AG
Kemptthal, Switzerland

Hivoduct offers pressurized air cables for efficient and sustainable electric energy transmission at medium voltage and high voltage levels. This new technology is based on pressurized air as main insulation gas combined with a patented flange connecction. These cables are suitable for a wide application range in medium- and high voltage, with rated currents 200 A up to 4000 A and interfaces to overhead lines, Gas-insulated Switchgear, Transformers, and cables.

Unique technical characteristics

The base design of pressurized air cables based on the patented ring flange system and using pressurized air as main insulation gas offers a unique combination of electrical, mechanical, and thermal characteristics, which are advantageous in many applications. Specifically, the large conductor cross section (> 2000 mm2) enables high rated currents and lowest losses during operation. The corresponding roller system allows compact laying into microtunnels or protection tubes. The metallic enclosure offers best fire protection, grounding, internal arc fault protection and reduces the EMV exposure. Additional advantages are the tiny bending radius, no cable joints needed and the reduced reactive power requirement.

Expanding the portfolio with 3-phase encapsulated options

The existing pressurized air cable products cover the medium voltage (12 kV to 52 kV) as well as the high voltage (72 kV to 145 kV) range. All products offer rated currents up to 3000 A.

We have now added 3-phase enclosed options for pressurized air cable products up to 145 kV, 2000 A. These options are beneficial for longer, straight installations in trenches or microtunnels as they require less installation space. The on-site installation efforts are reduced which enables more cost-efficient applications while still maintaining the great product characteristics of pressurized air cables.
