Fire Safety with Shell MIDEL
What happens when a mineral oil-filled transformer fails? In the worst case, it can result in an uncontrolled fire. Shell MIDEL 7131 significantly reduces this risk: classified as less flammable, Class K according to IEC 61099, and in worldwide use since the 1970s.
Shell MIDEL 7131 significantly reduces the risk of fire.
- Less flammable insulating liquid
- High flash point and fire point, Class K according to IEC 61099
- In worldwide use since the 1970s
- No known transformer fire involving MIDEL 7131
In ignition tests, conventional mineral oil ignited after only 4 minutes and continued to burn even after the ignition source was removed.
MIDEL 7131, however, showed no ignition even after 70 minutes at temperatures exceeding 260 °C.
Its high specific heat, good thermal conductivity, and high fire point ensure excellent ignition resistance.
Especially in buildings, urban infrastructure, and safety-critical applications, the choice of the right insulating fluid makes a decisive difference.
When safety is a priority, the fluid is more than just a medium; it is a central component of risk management.
