About us

Recovery of all battery materials to over 90%

With additional steps compared to conventional processes, Librec recovers all battery components. In addition to cobalt, nickel, lithium, manganese, copper, aluminum, steel, electronics and electrolyte, the Librec process also manages to recover graphite, which accounts for 10 to 20% of the battery weight, in an energy-efficient manner and without the use of chemicals.

The start-up based in Biberist employs 7 of its own employees (as of March 2022) from the fields of chemistry, process engineering, environmental technology, sales and operations. The team is complemented by external specialists in the field of plant construction, architects, engineers, environmental planners and sourcing, so that around 20 experts are currently working on the Librec mission.

With Librec's technology, large lithium-ion batteries from electromobility can be recycled. Librec's technology enables full recovery with low energy requirements, saving 8.1 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of recycled batteries compared to mining and 4.8 tonnes of CO2 compared to previous recycling technologies such as smelting and pyrolysis. The reference plant in Biberist will go into operation in spring 2024, but the team is already planning and preparing for internationalization in Europe.

After the successful and oversubscribed Seed Round of CHF 3 million in summer 2021, the Series A.1 financing round for interested investors will start in May 2022. This secures the financing for the Swiss location and the successful go-live! We are happy to introduce ourselves!
