Automated drone inspection
Intact electricity pylons and lines are the backbone of a safe electricity supply. Their perfect condition is a prerequisite for safe and reliable electricity distribution. Power grid operators are challenged. They carry out inspections for maintenance planning from the ground, with climbs or with helicopters. Axpo offers a better alternative with automated drone inspections. This increases quality and reduces the CO2 footprint and costs. AI technologies are also used in the process. The available maintenance budgets are thus used in the right places and the security of supply is massively increased.
The next generation F-gas-free insulated switchgear (GIS) for 24 kV distribution networks
SF6 is the best dielectric medium and, thus the most suitable for insulation in switchgear. Though the impact on global warming of SF6 employed in electrical equipment is low (<0,5%), its Global Warming Potential is quite high (≈ 23,500 more potent than CO2).
Aligned with Ormazabal’s sustainability commitment, they have been on the journey of eliminating SF6 for more than 10 years. Being aware that achieving a “like-for-like” solution is impossible, they have invested in developing several options with alternative gases, and, together with their main clients, identified the relevant technical attributes to select the most suitable alternative to current SF6 products.
