Energy systems in transition

The further development of markets and electricity grids is influenced by various factors. The transformation of energy systems, changes to European and national regulations, increased efficiency and digitalisation are key factors. Increasing volatility in the market can lead to regional bottlenecks in the grid. The implementation of Switzerland's Energy Strategy 2050 sets new framework conditions. Digitalisation makes it possible to manage markets and electricity grids more efficiently, cost-effectively and at short notice. System services for the integrated market are a key word here.

SILOVEDA® for system services

The national grid company Swissgrid ensures secure grid operation in Switzerland. In doing so, it makes a decisive contribution to security of supply. This goal is achieved by balancing consumption and production. The control reserves required for this are part of the system services and are procured by Swissgrid in a market-based and cost-efficient manner.

In order to ensure security of supply in the future, solid and above all far-sighted planning is required. In a first step, the increase in automation and the merger with the European market have already been realised. To this end, the Energy Communication Platform (ECP) for the integrated market (IM) was introduced in spring 2020. The simplified IM processes were an important milestone for the further development of the balancing energy market. The European connection with TERRE followed in February 2021. The MARI and PICASSO projects are in preparation as the next steps.

With the SILOVEDA® system services module, Girsberger Informatik AG is at the forefront and supports data exchange with the Swissgrid platform via ECP, which helps to ensure short response times. The SILOVEDA® ancillary services module is used for the integrated market and TERRE, as shown in the diagram below.

The standard SILOVEDA® system is an innovative tool for device management and time series processing that can process measurement series from a wide range of sectors such as electricity, gas, heat, water and emissions into useful company key figures and reports. The modular SILOVEDA® measurement and energy data management system can be easily adapted or expanded to meet new requirements at any time.
