Making Energy Data Usable: Easier Integration and Greater Transparency

Billing-relevant measurement is only part of the challenge. What matters is how easily energy meters can be integrated, configured and connected to applications for submetering, charging infrastructure and reporting.

Anyone looking to capture energy flows for billing purposes today needs more than accurate measurement values. In practice, what matters most is how easily a meter can be integrated, configured and connected to existing applications.

This is exactly where the new generation of WAGO energy meters comes in. Designed for precise submetering and billing-relevant applications, these devices cover typical use cases in buildings, industrial facilities and charging infrastructures. Depending on the version, different variants are available to meet specific regulatory requirements, including MID-, MessEV- or METAS-compliant solutions for billing-related applications. Typical use cases include submetering, load management, energy reporting and consumption billing for public charging stations and wallboxes.

Not just measuring, but making data easier to access.

When multiple measuring points, different communication interfaces and growing integration requirements come together, selecting the right meter quickly becomes a system-level decision.

The energy meters address this challenge with a broad range of communication options. Depending on the variant, RS-485 / Modbus RTU, M-Bus, Ethernet / Modbus TCP, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® Low Energy and S0 interfaces are available. Modbus TCP is already integrated in the new three-phase versions.

In practice, this means:

  • Suitable communication interfaces for different integration scenarios
  • Configuration via the WAGO App or web interface without programming effort
  • Export of current measurement data as CSV files directly from the app
  • Fast and secure wiring thanks to Push-in CAGE CLAMP® with lever technology

The measurement function itself is also highly relevant in practice.

The devices record energy, current, voltage, active and reactive power, as well as mains frequency across all phases. As four-quadrant meters, they distinguish between feed-in and consumption, as well as between capacitive and inductive energy. In addition, energy consumption can be recorded across up to four tariffs.

For charging infrastructure applications, selected versions are available with integrated Open Charge Metering Format (OCMF). These models comply with PTB-A50.7 requirements for use in legally compliant public charging stations.

In short:
The new generation of energy meters is not just designed to provide accurate measurement values. It is a compact measurement and integration component for applications where transparency, communication capability and easy integration are essential.
