Greenlabel: CO₂-reduced copper cables with a closed material cycle

With Greenlabel cable, KABLAN offers a solution for copper cables with a reduced CO₂ footprint and promotes the use of locally sourced secondary copper. This initiative supports a more sustainable approach to infrastructure.

Copper is a central component of cables and accounts for a large part of the CO₂ footprint. Greenlabel therefore relies on recycled copper from old cables, certificates of origin and a closed material cycle. This allows energy suppliers and other customers to contribute their quantities of old cables and at the same time purchase CO₂-reduced copper cables.

Greenlabel brings recycled copper back into the cable cycle

Greenlabel enables the use of CO₂-reduced copper cables based on recycled copper. The model relies on a closed material cycle: old cables are collected, separated and processed into high-quality secondary copper. This can then be used again for new cables.

Since copper accounts for a large proportion of the CO₂ footprint of cables, secondary copper offers relevant savings potential. According to Greenlabel, cables made from secondary copper cause around 50 percent fewer emissions than cables made from primary copper.

Customers receive certificates of origin for the quantities of copper brought in. This transparently documents which quantities are brought into the cycle and used for Greenlabel cables. The model is supported by KABLAN, Thommen, Bayka and Aurubis.
