Leakage Monitoring via LoRa Sensors
IoT sensors transmit measurement data from their assets and plants quickly and easily for further processing. Digitalization allows this measurement data to be collected throughout the life cycle and processed into useful information through device management and data processing.
SILOVEDA® IoT for Device Management and Data Processing
LoRaWAN networks transmit measured values from electricity, gas, heat, or water meters, as well as from any sensors, to the SILOVEDA® IoT module. There, they are automatically aggregated, and results can be forwarded specifically to consumers or to downstream systems. With LoRaWAN, various network providers or even proprietary radio networks are available. Using a realized leakage monitoring system for a district heating plant, we demonstrate an integrated solution from the IoT sensor to the monitoring stage.
Leakage detection is carried out by an algorithm derived from humidity, temperature, and precipitation. If the dynamic threshold is exceeded, a notification is sent to the system manager via email. A link to the evaluation graphic gives the employee an immediate initial assessment. In addition, the status of the sensors is actively monitored, and the remaining service life and accessibility are displayed.
Over time, underground piping systems can develop leaks due to wear, production errors, or corrosion. Detection is carried out through continuous monitoring of temperature and humidity in the shaft. To keep costs as low as possible in the event of damage, early leakage detection is of vital importance in addition to leakage localization. This is where the expertise of various partners comes together: the sensor manufacturer, the communication networks, and the measurement data processor. Girsberger Informatik AG possesses the know-how and experience for converting raw sensor and meter data into useful information.
With the SILOVEDA® IoT module from Girsberger Informatik AG, sensors can be easily managed as devices. By parameterizing, the sensor payloads can be decoded; subsequently, the payload resolver prepares the user data according to DIF/VIF. Data processing and evaluation take place in the standard SILOVEDA® Measurement and Energy Data Management System.
