Pfiffner Group Acquires "Electrical Switches & Connectors" Business from Rauscher & Stoecklin (R&S) Group
As a long-established Swiss family-owned company, the Pfiffner Group continues to expand its expertise in switchgear and connection solutions. This acquisition secures expertise, opens up growth opportunities, and enhances customer service at its current location.
The Pfiffner Group, a traditional Swiss family-owned company founded in 1927 with around 1,200 employees worldwide, today announces the acquisition of the «Electrical Switches & Connectors» business unit from R&S Group Holding AG (SIX: RSGN). With this acquisition, the Pfiffner Group further expands its expertise in manufacturing switching devices and connection solutions for the low- and medium-voltage sectors.
This business unit, previously based at the R&S Group in Sissach/BL, comprises 26 employees and generates annual sales of approximately CHF 8–10 million. Although the business has grown steadily in recent years, the R&S Group sees only limited strategic synergies with its core business, the transformer segment. By divesting this unit, the R&S Group can focus even more strongly on its core competencies in the future.
Growth and Expertise
With subsidiaries in Switzerland (750 employees, of which 450 are in Northwestern Switzerland), Germany, Brazil, and Turkey, the Pfiffner Group is ideally positioned to expand its product range through this acquisition meaningfully. «The portfolio of electrical switches and connectors solutions perfectly complements the offerings of our subsidiary Pfiffner Switchgear Ltd in the low and medium voltage sectors. In particular, the catenary disconnector segment offers attractive growth opportunities,» explains Marcel Rüfenacht, CEO of the Pfiffner Group.
To ensure the long-term retention of know-how and continuous customer support, all employees of the business unit will be taken on. The business operations will continue at the current location, ensuring seamless continuity.
Pfiffner Switchgear Ltd has a history of nearly 100 years: founded in 1928 as Alpha Elektrotechnik AG, it has been operating under the well-known Pfiffner brand based in Grenchen since 2025. The acquisition continues the tradition of developing disconnectors for the high- and medium-voltage markets.
As a trusted and long-term partner, the Pfiffner Group guarantees a positive future for all stakeholders — employees, customers, shareholders, and the Northwestern Switzerland region: «Due to the excellent market situation in our industry, we plan to expand the business. This acquisition not only strengthens our portfolio but also our innovative power and regional roots,» summarizes Marcel Rüfenacht.
The transaction is expected to be closed by year-end 2025, subject to customary closing conditions. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction value.
