Understanding technology is no longer optional—it is essential for navigating today’s rapidly evolving energy landscape.

To stay ahead, business leaders and decision-makers must go beyond trends and develop a solid grasp of the technologies shaping the industry.

Since 2019, ETH Zurich has made this possible through its “reverse MBA” approach—opening CAS programmes to professionals from all backgrounds, including business, economics, law, and beyond.

Participants can learn directly from leading experts and gain the clarity needed to understand today’s technologies and confidently shape tomorrow’s opportunities in energy.

Our CAS programmes are part-time and provide the opportunity to dive deeper into key relevant technology in just 3 months. The following programmes could be extremely relevant for the energy industry:

  • CAS ETH in Applied Technology in Energy (CAS ETH ATE): offered each year from April to July. Next application window: 30 November 2026 - 28 February 2027 for a start in April 2027. The programme combines scientific foundations of battery energy storage and future power grids, with applied use cases from industry. This is a key programme for those looking to understand the latest technology trends in the energy industry. Link to the CAS ATE programme webpage.
  • CAS ETH in Applied Machine Learning and Information Processing (CAS ETH AMI): offered each year from September to December. Next application window: 1 April 2026 - 1 July 2026 for a start in September 2026. The programme offers insights into a broad range of topics such as data science, large language models, AI agents, reinforcement learning and more! The programme is ideal for professionals working in the energy industry looking to accelerate their capabilities in using ML/AI. Link to the CAS ETH AMI programme webpage.
  • CAS ETH in Applied Automation Technology (CAS ETH AUT): offered each year from September to December. Next application window: 1 April 2026 - 1 July 2026 for a start in September 2026. The programme offers insights into a broad range of topics relevant to the automation and control technologies encountered in all aspects of the energy industry. The course curriculum covers relevant topics and application cases on fundamental technologies such as Proportional Integral Derivative controllers (PID) but also deeper dives into advanced topics such as control under uncertainty or learning and data-driven control. The programme is ideal for professionals working in the energy industry looking to become more efficient working with their colleagues in grid automation and control operations.
