Energy systems in transition
The development of markets and electricity grids is influenced by various factors. The transformation of energy systems, changes to European and national regulations, improvements in efficiency and digitalisation are key factors.
Increasing market volatility can lead to regional grid bottlenecks. The implementation of Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 is creating a new regulatory framework. Digitalisation makes it possible to manage markets and electricity grids more efficiently, cost-effectively and with shorter notice. System services for the integrated market are a key aspect of this.
SILOVEDA® für Systemdienstleistungen
The national grid operator Swissgrid ensures the safe operation of the grid in Switzerland. In doing so, it makes a crucial contribution to security of supply. This objective is achieved by balancing consumption and generation. The balancing reserves required for this are part of the system services and are procured by Swissgrid on a market-based and cost-efficient basis.
To ensure security of supply in the future, solid and, above all, forward-looking planning is required. As a first step, increased automation and integration with the European market have already been achieved. To this end, the ‘Energy Communication Platform’ (ECP) for the Integrated Market (IM) was introduced in spring 2020. The simplified processes of the IM marked an important milestone in the further development of the balancing energy market. The next steps are the MARI and PICASSO projects, which are currently in preparation.

With the SILOVEDA® System Services module, Girsberger Informatik AG is at the forefront of the industry, supporting data exchange with the Swissgrid platform via ECP, which helps to ensure short response times. The SILOVEDA® System Services module is used for the integrated market and TERRE, as illustrated in the diagram.
