The next generation F-gas-free insulated switchgear (GIS) for 24 kV distribution networks

SF6 is the best dielectric medium, thus the most suitable for insulation in switchgears. Though the impact on global warming of SF6 employed in electrical equipment is low (<0,5%), its GWP is quite high (≈ 23,500 more potent than CO2).

Aligned with Ormazabal’s sustainability commitment, we have been on the journey of eliminating SF6 for more than 10 years. Being aware that it is impossible to achieve a “like for like” solution, we have invested in the development of several options with alternative gases. Then we have identified with our main clients the technical attributes that are most relevant to select the most suitable alternatives to current SF6 products.
