Intrusion Detection for Critical Infrastructure in the Energy Sector
"Be a hacker": Attack scenarios on the critical infrastructure of a substation. Think like an attacker – from phishing access to the next step. Detect, analyze, and evaluate using StationGuard IDS from OMICRON, along with insights into vulnerability management.
In this practical presentation, OMICRON & ALSEC demonstrate how real cyberattacks on substations unfold. Following a brief introduction to the StationGuard IDS and a real rack setup, we will step into the role of an attacker – starting with a successful phishing attack. Through several live demos, typical attack paths on IEDs and IEC 61850 networks will be shown: from FTP access and manipulations to GOOSE reinject and switching command attacks. Detection and analysis are performed using StationGuard and GridOps Vulnerability Management.
Our event in the Speakers Corner will also take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 11:00–11:30 AM.
