Participation in the xplor Startup Competition is open to start-up teams and young companies that develop or already offer products, services or digital business models in the field of energy.


The winners of the xplor Startup Competition will be invited to present their innovations at their own booth in the xplor Startup Village on the Powertage 2021 and to present their ideas in the Speakers' Corner.

Public Tender

Any startup that meets the following criteria can take part in the xplor Startup Competition free of charge until 25 January 2021:

  • The start-up company based in Switzerland must have been founded within the last 7 years or be about to be founded.
  • The business idea must be innovative and address a market-relevant need of the energy sector.
  • It must be concepts, products, best practices or solutions that represent an integrated overall solution and make a sustainable contribution to the energy industry. The prerequisite is that the submitted project has at least already been tested in practice.
  • There should be a potential for extraordinary growth.
  • The business idea presented must fit into the Powertage portfolio.

Public Voting

Public voting for the qualified start-ups starts in March 2021. The winner of the public voting can participate directly on the Powertage / xplor Startup Village.

Jury Selection

National jury members decide which further 9 startups will take part on the Powertage 2021 and present their innovations and ideas at their own booth in the xplor Startup Village and in the Speakers' Corner. The jury members evaluate the participants according to the documents submitted directly by them:

The jury evaluates the participants and their projects according to the following criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Market relevance
  • Sustainability
  • Growth potential

The 9 start-ups that best meet these criteria will be nominated for the Powertage 2021. The jury's decision is binding and cannot be contested. Applications can be rejected without stating a reason.

Use the online form to apply for the xplor Startup Competition. The conditions of participation and the provisions of the exhibitor regulations, the exhibition operating regulations and the data protection regulations of MCH Basel Exhibition apply.

Powertage 2021 to be held in a digital format with the live event now being staged in May 2022.

The “Powertage 2021” fair planned for June this year as the meeting point for Switzerland’s electricity industry is being held digitally in June 2021, with the live event now scheduled for 17 to 19 May 2022. We are launching our first digital event for this purpose on 15 June 2021.

We will be sending out information to you on the next steps by mid-April. The detailed programme for the first digital event is being drawn up in the period up to mid-May 2021 and will then be presented.
